Senior Accountant


Administer, assign and direct the general accounting operations for Gulfstream Goodwill Industries and for Lighthouse for the Blind; coordinate internal control procedures; and contribute to the mission of Goodwill by providing diligent oversight to ensure maximizing revenues from grants and contracts, guided by precedent and working within the limits of established policies.


  • Assign and check work.  Provide direction to staff and assist in the investigation and resolution of problems.  Evaluate performance and provide counseling and coaching to employees.  Maintain positive employee/employer relations.  Determine current and future staffing levels.  Develop and implement staffing plans and related budgets.
  • Establishes and prioritizes goals and objectives for daily operations of the Accounting Department.  Ensures subordinates meet deadlines.  Recommends appropriate work assignments, priorities and any proposed changes in procedures or policies.
  • Represents the interest of GGI in interactions with other parties, such as, banks, vendors, customers, and external auditors.  Provide appropriate assistance to others on accounting issues.  Gathers data, prepares reports, and makes presentations in a competent and timely manner.
  • Coordinates all banking aspects when new location opens. This includes new bank account with deposit slips and endorsement stamp; credit card processing and check verification terminals along with merchant account and letter of credit, if needed.
  • Maintains chart of accounts in MIP along with vendor and customer lists as well as billing groups.
  • Prepares for and participates in all audit processes, including pulling and coordinating required documentation.  Provides explanation and further information as requested. Review findings and make procedural changes as recommended.
  • Responsible for full cycle close for Lighthouse for the Blind (LHB).
  • Responsible for Accounts payable and client assistance for LHB.
  • Prepares budget for Accounting Department.
  • Prepares filing of tangible tax for all GGI locations.
  • Daily and monthly sales reporting for retail locations.
  • Issue and account for Gift Cards.
  • Handles disbursements, deposits, and entries of the client assistance account.
  • Write and edit the accounting policies and procedures; and provide guidance in following the procedures and programs as prescribed.
  • Handles credit card disbursements for the executive, procurement and housing departments.
  • Provide assistance with other general department activities.
  • Demonstrate by words and actions a commitment to the Goodwill mission by advocating for and assisting persons experiencing homelessness to become more independent.
  • Perform or assist with any duties or operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.
  • Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules, keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Participate in any variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration, at least 5 – 7 years experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • High level proficiency in a variety of software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Confidential, organized, analytical and detail-oriented
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with external and internal customers
